GLAMj Golf Tournament Supports LGBT+ Youth

This Saturday, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Moose Jaw (GLAMj) will be hosting its third charity golf tournament in support of Camp Fyrefly at the Deer Ridge Golf & Country Club.

Dale Hall, President of GLAMj said it was important for the group to support the camp so that local youth could participate in the important programming offered by fYrefly.

“A lot of youth have come out of that camp with more confidence and better self-esteem. The camp also builds leadership skills, so the youth can help the broader community understand LGBT issues,” Hall said.

According to their website:

“Camp fYrefly is Canada’s largest, volunteer-based, summer leadership retreat for sexual and gender minority and allied youth. The camp … is designed to help youth develop the leadership skills and resiliency necessary for them to become change agents in their schools, families, and communities.”

Hall emphasized that the tournament is open to all ages and skill levels, with the focus being on having fun and supporting a good cause:

“It’s great exercise and a lot of fun just getting together and golfing with a bunch of people and being part of a team.”

$80 gets you a round of golf at the event and a steak or chicken dinner as well as the chance to win some fabulous prizes. Hall said the organizers have had incredible support from more than 40 business sponsors in Moose Jaw donating money or prizes like an autographed roughrider jersey and a free night’s stay at the Grant Hall Hotel.

The registration deadline for the tournament is this Thursday, September 8, but the group said they will accept last-minute entries if there are any open spots remaining. Individuals, couples and teams are all welcome to sign up.

The tournament kicks off on Saturday with registration opening at 11am and golfing starting at 1pm. Golfers are asked to make their own accommodations for clubs, with both clubs and carts available for rent from Deer Ridge.

Anyone who is not able to attend the golf tournament is encouraged to join the group for supper (tickets $20) or to donate directly to the Camp fYrefly online:
