Pride Week May 22 to 29 2021

Pride Week in Moose Jaw 2021

Pride Week in Moose Jaw 2021

We each have a role to play in creating environments where 2SLGBTQ+ people and families feel belonging and can participate in community life in meaningful, positive ways.
Save the dates! May 22nd to May 29th, 2021

We belong here and you are absolutely worth celebrating!

2SLGBTQ+ people and families can be allies too! As an ally, your public and visible support of other 2SLGBTQ+ people and families is instrumental to the ongoing fight for justice, equity and liberation. Thank you.

Say it with us:
“I can demonstrate allyship with my trans, queer, Two Spirit, racialized, newcomer and Indigenous siblings every day by being visible as an ally, making space, listening, seeking knowledge, standing up against racism, ableism, transphobia, biphobia and homophobia, and amplifying voices, experiences and perspectives.
We are in this together, you belong here and you are not alone.”

Moose Jaw Pride Week celebrations in 2021 include a mix of both vehicle based and virtual events so that everyone can participate safely and comfortably. The spirit of Pride endures, as it always has, as it always will: personal, shared and defiant.

We call upon you, Moose Jaw, in this same spirit. During the week of May 22nd and beyond, we encourage you to express to the 2SLGBTQ+ people and families around you, all of the ways in which “You Belong Here.”

On this page you can find some ways to participate and to demonstrate belonging.

Participate as an 2SLGBTQ+ person or family

This is for us. This is for you.

Pride is yours. You own it and you live it. At the best of times, and when it is safe to do so, Pride is Public.

We want you to be brave. Be brave for yourself and others if it is safe for you to do so. Share personal testimonies of Pride this week on social media in video and photos, with friends, family and coworkers. Tell everyone what Pride means to you.

Tell us what Pride means to you during a Virtual Show n’ Tell  with Moose Jaw Pride and the Western Development Museum. Dr. Elizabeth Scott, the Curator for the organization, will be giving a presentation regarding 2SLGBTQ+ history in the province and sharing items from the museum’s permanent 2SLGBTQ+ collection.  We want you to share too! What’s important to you? What makes you feel Pride? Individuals are encouraged toregister to share their memorabilia and memories with the group. This has been a moving andfavourite in-person event in years past.

You can register to watch and learn or share an item or object here.

Bring Pride Home.

For some of us, home is where we can truly be ourselves. We want to see how you have made Pride a part of your home. Deck it out inside or dress up those front steps and windows. Share photos of your Pride shrine or Pride outfits on social media and tag #moosejawpride and #ibelonghere for your chance to win a $150.00 gift certificate to Rainbow Retro Thrift Shop.

Don’t have any Pride swag? Moose Jaw Pride is providing FREE flags and other materials to help you Bring Pride Home. – call, text or whatsapp us at 3066923388 and we will deliver them to you.

Unfortunately, home is not a place of safety and acceptance for many of us. If it is safe to do so, tell us or someone that you trust. taylor@moosejawpride.ca

An important part of allyship is listening. Reach out to your LGBTQ2S+ friends and ask them how they are doing. It’s also important as an Ally to make space for diverse voices and experiences in all settings.

Make a commitment to listen and to make space publicly by sharing these graphic cards and tagging #youbelonghere and #moosejawpride

Bring The Colours of Pride to Your Home and Work

Letting the people around you see the rainbow colours is a good way to show your Pride and your support of LGBTQ2S+ people and families to others. It is also an excellent way to show your family, friends, coworkers, employees and customers that your home and place of work is inclusive, safer space or working towards becoming one. Think of it as a Rainbow Bomb. You have different ways to display rainbow colours; You can use flags and posters, windows displays, projections and even decorate your facade or sidewalk with rainbow coloured chalk. If you have a flag pole – use it. You can do anything!

Share your Work!

What does your business or organization do to demonstrate belonging all year round? We want to know! Moose Jaw needs to know! Do you have gender-neutral washrooms? Do you encourage and empower your team to speak up against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia when they hear it? Have your teams taken Diversity Training? Do you have inclusive non-discrimination policies in place that are enforced and a part of your workplace culture? Do you donate time, talent and treasure to LGBTQ2S+ equity seeking organizations, groups and individuals?

Let’s celebrate all that you do by sharing this with your audiences and ours. Post about it. Tell your clients about it. Tell us about. Tag #moosejawpride and #youbelonghere and we will amplify your efforts across our social media channels and communities!

If you’re still exploring ways to make your spaces and places inclusive of trans, queer, non-binary, and Two Spirit people but need a jumpstart on what that looks like or how to proceed
– WE DO THAT!

Moose Jaw Pride has been helping businesses and organizations all over Saskatchewan meet this challenge by providing fabulously inclusive workshops, education, policy reviews and professional guidance in all sectors.

Commit your business or organization to participating in a future workshop when physical distancing guidelines are relaxed by contacting Taylor at taylor@moosejawpride.ca

Share a Video or Image Post on Social Media
