Share Your Pride May 24 to 31 2020

The phrase “You Belong Here” can have a powerful effect on those who hear it. Say it with us, “You belong here.” It is also a call to action: to demonstrate that Two Spirit, Trans and Queer people and families are welcome and have space in all that we do in our communities. It is also commitment to the honest and genuine inclusion of all equity seeking groups and individuals in every aspect of our lives and community—whether they are gender and sexually diverse, Indigenous, newcomers, people with disabilities, people of colour or any and all things in-between. Moose Jaw works towards this call to action when we listen, act, stand with, support and make space for all voices and experiences.

Moose Jaw Pride Week celebrations have been postponed until everyone can participate safely and comfortably. But the spirit of Pride endures, as it always has, as it always will: personal, shared and defiant.

We call upon you, Moose Jaw, in this same spirit. During the week of May 24th and beyond, we encourage you to express to the LGBTQ2S+ people and families around you, all of the ways in which “You Belong Here.”

On this page you can find some ways to participate and to demonstrate belonging.

Participate as an LGBTQ2S+ person or family

Bedtime Stories with Flo Mingo

Get comfy in your PJ’s with Flo Mingo for a super magical, all ages and family friendly, virtual sleepy-time event.

Flo will be reading three children’s books including Kai Cheng Thom’s ‘From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea ‘ and other stories through Facebook Live on Thursday May 28th at 7:00pm.

The stories being read during Bedtime Stories with Flo Mingo will introduce kids to the idea that all others, despite appearance or family structure, are worthy of respect, and to a world that is not divided into “us” and “others.”

This event will provide an opportunity for parents to begin to have conversations with their kids about respecting other types of people and reassuring them that they will love their child however they choose to express themselves.

And it will be fun! 🎉😆😴

Bring The Colours of Pride to Your Home and Work

Letting the people around you see the rainbow colours is a good way to show your Pride and your support of LGBTQ2S+ people and families to others. It is also an excellent way to show your family, friends, coworkers, employees and customers that your home and place of work is inclusive, safer space or working towards becoming one. Think of it as a Rainbow Bomb. You have different ways to display rainbow colours; You can use flags and posters, windows displays, projections and even decorate your facade or sidewalk with rainbow coloured chalk.
