Saskatchewan Pride Network

COVID-19

You belong here and you are not alone.

The LGBTQ2+ community in Saskatchewan has been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19  pandemic.  Gender and sexually diverse people are more likely to work in industries affected. As of April 5th, 2020 – more than half of all queer and trans households have experienced loss of employment. The Saskatchewan Pride Network has modified its resources to respond, support and connect LGBTQ2+ folks living in Saskatchewan through a variety of initiatives.

Through the Moose Jaw Pride Free Tax Clinic we are able to offer assistance to anyone living in Saskatchewan with tax preparation, employment insurance claims, emergency response benefits and other supports that have been made available during this challenging time. Contact us at taxclinic@moosejawpride.ca or 3066923388

The Saskatchewan Pride Network has deployed a Discord server – a text and voice chat application – that connects gender and sexually diverse people from across the province. Facilitated “drop-in” time between noon and 4:pm for peer support has been made available Tuesday through Friday. Join us. https://discord.gg/YShs3U

Moose Jaw Pride and the Saskatchewan Pride Network have made available Digital Committees to enable our volunteers and community members to continue to contribute to the important work that we do, provide oversight and guidance as well as maintain healthy connections.  Community volunteer participation is at the heart of what we do. If you are interested in participating and sharing your skills and perspective – please fill out the form at https://moosejawpride.ca/moose-jaw-pride-digital-committees/

The Saskatchewan Pride Network continues to support queer and trans families and individuals across the province. For professional support, appropriate health, housing and food security referral, or information please contact Taylor at 3066923388

We continue to support GSA’s in a number of School Divisions through digital tools made available by administrators in those divisions. Connect with your GSA or an educator you feel safe with to learn how to participate.

The Trans Hope Fund continues to be made available to those in need.  https://moosejawpride.ca/hope/

About the Saskatchewan Pride Network

Moose Jaw Pride is proud to be a founding member of the Saskatchewan Pride Network, a Community Initiatives Fund project that seeks to support and empower LGBT+ people living in smaller communities across Saskatchewan.

Whether it is helping to organize community events, providing diversity training to organizations or connecting you with information and resources–we’re here to help!

The overall objectives of the Saskatchewan Pride Network project are:

1) To offer resources and support to struggling LGBT+ individuals and their families living in smaller communities across Saskatchewan.

2) To offer opportunities for learning and professional development to various community service agencies, businesses and individuals.

3) To support LGBT+ community development through the provision of fun, safe and inclusive community events which facilitate the formation of informal support networks and a sense of belonging.

4) To multiply the number of people with the skills, knowledge and confidence to organize community events, offer diversity training and provide support to LGBT+ individuals.

The ultimate goal of the Saskatchewan Pride Network is to create safer, more welcoming and more inclusive communities through the provision of fabulously inclusive community events and educational opportunities.

Diversity Training

Gender and sexual diversity can be confusing. Organizations and businesses that want to be more inclusive often don’t know where to start. How can we help LGBT people feel welcome? What language should we use? How can we avoid discrimination? What else do we need to know?

Whether you are in Prince Albert or Porcupine Plain, the Saskatchewan Pride Network offers an interactive workshop for various organizations that are wanting to help jump-start their goals of becoming more inclusive. This fun and engaging workshop is geared towards equipping beginners with the most important information they need about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) community.
