Substantial Investment from Western Economic Diversification Canada

Moose Jaw Pride Receives Investment from Western Economic Diversification Canada

Moose Jaw Pride is pleased to announce a substantial investment from Western Economic Diversification Canada in the amount of $95,000 over two years to engage local tourism and service oriented enterprise in developing, educating and implementing Gender and Sexual Diversity positive spaces, places, experiences and employees, as well as to position Moose Jaw as an emerging LGBTQ2S+ positive destination to potential visitors from Western Canada and beyond.

Our mission at Moose Jaw Pride Inc., a local non-profit, is to build safer and more welcoming communities for gender and sexual diversity in smaller centres across Saskatchewan — all year long. We do this in partnership and through consultation with local LGBTQ2S+ communities, engagement with key stakeholders and service providers, education opportunities, and sustained collaboration across sectors.

Moose Jaw boasts one of the highest numbers of tourist attractions per capita in Canada and the tourism sector contributes over $90 million a year to the local economy.

Moose Jaw Pride is proud to have received support from community partners in the development and future implementation of this program. We wish to thank Tourism Moose Jaw, Tunnels of Moose Jaw, Moose Jaw Chambers of Commerce and City of Moose Jaw Economic Development Services.

The Government of Canada funding announced above is provided through the Canadian Experiences Fund (CEF) and supports Minister Joly’s recent announcement of the new tourism strategy: Creating Middle Class Jobs: A Federal Tourism Growth Strategy. The Strategy, which was developed based on feedback from Canadians and the work of the Advisory Council on Jobs and the Visitor Economy, highlights the importance of Canada’s tourism sector as an economic driver for communities across the country. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) delivers CEF in Western Canada.
